Kylan Walters founded Leap Dynamics in 2013 and has led it ever since. As President he sets the direction of the airline. As its developer he builds the platform it runs on: the website, the freight board and dispatch, the ACARS server, and the acarsy client that tracks every flight.

Founding Leap Dynamics

Leap Dynamics began in 2013 as a free virtual cargo airline for flight simulator pilots who wanted to fly freight the way it is actually flown: unscheduled, on demand, and to wherever the load needs to go. Kylan modelled the airline on the real ACMI and CMI carriers, the operators that place aircraft and crews with the largest freight networks in the world when demand outruns their own fleets.

That model has shaped every decision since. Leap does not assign pilots to a hub. Aircraft sit wherever the last leg left them, crews reposition to the airframe their next assignment needs, and every departure on the board carries a generated manifest, a load sheet and an operational flight plan.

Building the platform

Kylan designs and writes the software himself. The website, the hourly freight generator, dispatch and PIREP filing, the crew logbook and the administrator tools are all in-house work. So is acarsy, the desktop ACARS client that reports a flight to the airline while it is being flown, and havmapper, the route map engine that draws the network on the tracking and logbook pages.

The site has been rebuilt in stages rather than replaced. The operation pilots fly today still runs on the ideas of the 2013 original, with the tooling brought up to date around it.

On the line

Kylan flies the line as well as running it. He holds pilot number LEA100, the first on the roster, and files his own flights through acarsy like every other crew member. Leap flights are flown on VATSIM or offline, and he welcomes either.
